The Most Luxurious Trains Of The World

The Palace on Wheels season 2003-04 is near to its completion. The last trip of this season would be leaving on 28th April 04. The performance of Palace on Wheels during this season has been outstanding as compared to all the previous years. This year the total number of guests would be around 2,750. 

This record performance has been achieved due to the massive promotional campaign made by the RTDC and Indian Railways from time to time and during the Road Shows in U.K. and U.S.A. Besides the performance of this season there is a record advance bookings for the coming two seasons i.e. 2004-05 & 2005-06. RTDC has already received around 2100 bookings for 2004-05 & around 400 for the season 2005-06. RTDC has also received definite inquiries for 1000 guests during the successful participation in SATTE held from 25th March – 27th March 2004 in Delhi.

RTDC and Indian Railways

The Palace on Wheels has graced RTDC and Indian Railways since 1982. It has completed its 22 years successfully and has become U.S.P. of Rajasthan Tourism. The Palace on Wheels has been rated as one of the ten best luxury trains in the world and has attained world acclaim in popularity, including the prestigious PATA Gold Award in 1987. The Palace on Wheels was also nominated for 7th Annual World Travel Award in the luxury train category in the year 2000.

The Palace on Wheels started as a unique holiday train hauled by a Steam Engine and started to roll on its regular operations from October 1982. The popularity of the train has been enhanced by the media. Famous T.V. teams such as BBC, MTV, ZEE TV, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and many others have covered the Palace on Wheels and shown on their network.

Air-Conditioned Rail

The Palace on Wheels comprises 14 fully air-conditioned Coaches, fully vestibules  for 104 passengers, with twin-bedded cabins, each with a bathroom and shower. The coaches are named after former princely states. Aesthetics match the interiors of the royal past. Each saloon has a mini pantry and a lounge to ensure availability of hot/cold beverages, refreshment. It becomes a palace to relax and get together through out the journey. The train has two dining halls, The Maharaja and the Maharani, creating royal ambience and where mouthwatering continental, Indian and Rajasthani cuisine is served. The train also has well appointed lounge with a library and a bar.

The total number of tourist traveled up to this season since its inception in 1982 have been around 40500.
